ABNA Submission

January has been a very busy month, and I am proud to say that my third novel Power to the People has been completed. I have also submitted this novel to the Amazon.com Breakthrough Novel Award writing contest. Below is my pitch for the novel:

Power to the People

Like high-voltage power lines and routine everyday office work, many things have the power to suck the life right out of you. The difference between these two is that working in an office does it much more slowly, with mind numbing tasks and tedious social contests. Saran learns this fact the hard way, while struggling to get by as single girl in the big city, with a looming tax dead line, and an AI that would make any nagging mother proud. She relies on her friends, Lauri and Jonah, as together they navigate the maze of office politics, pranks, gossip, and revenge. Every step taking Saran closer to a point where her luck might at last take a turn for the better. Then again, the new President’s promise of transformative change may shift the fortunes of everyone in the nation. That is, of course, if he can traverse the gauntlet of political machines that have sworn to defeat him.
Power to the People is a rousing office comedy, set in a near future world, and wrapped in the suspense of political intrigue. Join us as we follow Saran and her friends on the roller coaster ride of her life, while America stands at the crossroads of embarking on a new future where it might actually learn from its mistakes.

Please stay tuned for more updates, as there are many more to come .

Happy New Year

Hello and Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and ended their 2009 on a high note. I have to admit that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and New Year while festive is always a little depressing for me. I hate saying good bye to another year. I guess the older I get the more sensitive I am to the passage of time. All things considered though 2009 was a great year for me and as it looks right now 2010 is going to be even better.

I recently accepted a new job that I will start on January 4th. It will allow me to have an earlier shift, I'll hopefully be able to listen to audio books while I work, I got a small raise, and I will no longer have many of the additional responsibilities that I don't enjoy that I have in my current position. I will be in training for the entire month of January which should be an easy month during a time which is one of our busiest seasons.

It was also one of my 2009 New Year's resolutions to get serious about my writing and to try my hand at podcasting. I feel like I have made good progress in both areas. During the beginning of the year it was certainly difficult to get the ball rolling, but once it started rolling things have kind of taken on a life of their own. I wrote Christy during the first half of the year and then began podcasting the story in July. So far that has gone extremely well as I now have almost 3,000 downloads. The success of writing Christy encouraged me to write a sequel Christy: A Wedding Tale which is now complete as far as the writing, but I have asked my father-in-law to edit the book. I hope to have it back soon so that I can finish it up. After the major writing of Wedding was complete I also went ahead and started writing another novel which will be something completely differently. Power to the People is almost finished as far as the major writing is concerned and I am really under the gun on this one. I want to have it completely finished by January 25th so that I can enter it in the Amazon.com Breakout Novel writing competition. It is an alternative history political comedy which should absolutely be a thrill to read. I think it is my best book to date and I am really looking forward to getting it out there.

My wife and I also bought a Wii in May and with the help of the Wii Fit I was able to lose about 30 lbs this year. I haven't been as steady with as I need to help keep my weight down, which is something I hope to fix within the coming year.

OK so that was 2009, but now what about 2010. I thought it would be good for me to go ahead and post my New Year's resolutions. I tend to be a little over zealous at times so this year I am going to try to keep it a little more reasonable. So here we go:

1. Write 3 new novels.

2. Write, Publish, and Podcast a travel loge of my family's adventure to Canada and New England in September 2010.

3. Read or listen to 50 books.

4. Weight 180.

I will probably post an update in July to see exactly how I'm doing.

Support

I wanted to thank everyone for your fantastic support and encouragement. Today marks the one week anniversary of the Podcast release, and so far I have received almost 1500 downloads. That is a great accomplishment and would not have been possible without your help.

Thank you so much and stay tuned for more updates.

Christy

Hello, and welcome to the blog for Christy. If you would like to learn more about the novel please visit my website at christynovel.com. This work has now been released in Podcast (which you can listen to on the site) and should be coming out very soon in print and audio CD.

Christy is a story about life and more specifically the journey of life and all the ups and downs and craziness that we all go through just to get by. As humans we carry our experiences around with us coloring our personalities and perceptions as well as hauling around a fair amount of emotional baggage. These things are so important because they shape our choices and decisions and those are the things that chart our course through the turgid seas of life.

I hope you enjoy the novel and I would appreciate any feedback. Please feel free to email me at author@christynovel.com
